How to design an eye catching website without imagery
PepperStreet was recently asked to redesign the 61508.org website. A website dedicated to the safety standard 61508.
The 61508 Association is a cross-industry group of organisations with a common interest in functional safety, particularly in applying IEC 61508 and related standards correctly in order to demonstrate compliance and improve safety for all.
The challenge was that safety standards are necessary but not terribly glamorous. They don’t come with shiney product imagery or colourful landscape photos in fact what kind of graphical tools can you use? Even colours usually dervie from an existing logo, as do fonts. So we chose bold shapes, taking the triangle motif from the logo and dug deep for some nice icons. In combination with bold colours we think we did a pretty good job of creating an eye catching contemporary website for the 61508 Association.
