This varied and beautiful trail run is completely off road through the tracks and paths and up and over the Bollington landmark of White Nancy. White Nancy offers fabulous views across the Peak District on a good day you can see Kinder Scout and the Cat & Fiddle.

The Route

We start the route by parking on the road in Kerridge and following the signs for White Nancy.

  1. Follow the signpost for White Nancy up a small private road. You have 2 choices, you’ll come to a track through the woods on your right after about 300 metres, you can go up here. Or follow the road a further 100m over a cattle grid and take the scenic route up the front of Kerridge Hill. Both roads lead to Rome, so to speak.
  2. Once at Nancy, catch your breath and enjoy the view. Then set off south along the ridge. At the end of the ridge don’t go down but through the gate and continue up hill to your right until you reach the trig point.
  3. Straight on through the gate and work your way downhill going through several gates.
  4. At the bottom of the hill don’t go out onto the road but double back on yourself 180 degrees along a well marked trail. Through a gate and slightly off to your left you’ll follow the path through another gate and finally to a stone gateway with no gate. Off to your right is a track downhill towards a stream.
  5. Cross the stream and head over the stile and up the hill until you meet a small lane with some houses on. This is Rainow. Follow the lane to a T Junction and turn left here. Just before you meet the main road the lane turns sharp left towards the Robin Hood Pub.
  6. Follow the road to the left of the pub, keep going ignoring the left turn about about half a km. The road now goes steeply uphill until you see a farm on your left.
  7. Here take the footpath over a stile into the farm and follow it around to Rainowlow and the houses there.
  8. Before you get to the first house there is a left turn over a stile and down a farm track, follow all the way downhill to a stone stile into a field.
  9. Keeping the fence to your right follow the fence line down, over another stile and eventually over a stream. Keep the stream on your right and follow the path until it meets a lane.
  10. Turn right on the lane and go for about 300m until you see a footpath on your left. Over the stone stile and down crossing a stream then up again. At the large stone stile go over and immediate right through a gate and downhill. You’ll come to an old stone bridge over another stream cross and continue to the lane.
  11. At the lane turn left, ignore the road up to your right go past the houses and look for the footpath going up through Waulkmill Woods.
  12. At the top of the wood, find the track running under the ridge and turn right, follow all the way past the weird ducks in a cage to the road.
  13. Turn left (don’t go downhill) and follow this private road all the way back past the steps up Nancy and back down to the start point.
